Photoarchives: Digital Collection

Our digital presence on the web is a collection of scanned images housed with PALNI (Private Academic Library Network of Indiana) at http://replica.palni.edu/cdm/landingpage/collection/hcarchive . The images viewed on this server are scanned as uncompressed PC TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) files in 24-bit RGB Color, using a flatbed scanner. For viewing the images online TIFFs are converted to JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) or JPEG2000 files through CONTENT dm Digital Collection Management Software.

From this home page http://replica.palni.edu/, select Browse. Then choose Hanover College - Duggan Library Photo Archive from the drop down list on the following page. Over 300 images have been cataloged at this site to date and continues to grow, with detailed descriptions (meta data) of both the photo's subject matter and the physical characteristics of the photograph itself (based on an industry standard for cataloging called the Dublin Core).
