Laptop Checkout and Use Policies
All users are expected to abide by the policies set forth in the
Hanover College "Acceptable Use of Computing Systems, Software,
and the Hanover College Data Network" statement, available at http://www.hanover.edu/computing/policies.htm
The laptop has been provided for student use by a generous grant
from the Parents’ Association.
Borrowing:
The laptop may be borrowed only by current Hanover College students
with a valid College ID card.
The user must leave his/her College ID card with the Circulation
Desk staff each time, and for the entire period that the laptop
is checked out.
The laptop may be used ONLY within the Library proper, and may
not be taken out of the Library beyond the security doors. This
means that the laptop may not be taken into the lobby or into the
computer lab.
The laptop must be returned directly to a staff person at the Circulation
Desk. Failure to return the laptop within the allotted time may
result in the loss of future use.
Users with large outstanding Library fines may be denied use of
the laptop.
Time Limits:
The checkout period is for 2 hours. If no other users are waiting
to use the laptop, the checkout period may be renewed for one additional
2-hour period.
A user may borrow the laptop for a maximum period of 4 hours per
day.
The laptop is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The
Library will not accept reservations for the use of the laptop.
Laptop must be returned 1 hour before closing.
The laptop will stop circulating at 10 p.m. This means that users
checking out the laptop at 10 p.m. will only have a 1-hour checkout
period.
Use:
Please report any hardware or software problems to the Circulation
staff immediately. Problems requiring extensive troubleshooting
may need to be referred to Academic Computing.
DO NOT LEAVE THE LAPTOP UNATTENDED AT ANY TIME.
Do not use food or drink around the laptop.
The laptop battery charge should last for the 2-hour duration of
checkout.
If the battery power is getting low, or if you prefer to use AC
power, the laptop may be plugged into any available Library electrical
outlet.
Users may not install any personal software or other files to the
laptop’s hard drive.
Users are expected not to delete, alter, or otherwise modify any
hardware, software, or data on the laptop, including display and
desktop configurations.
The Library is not responsible for any computer viruses that may
be transferred to or from user diskettes.
Applications:
The laptop provides Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
applications only.
The laptop has a wi-fi card for wireless connections to the Internet
in the Library.
Saving Files:
Files may be saved to personal floppy diskettes only.
You may provide your own or they may be purchased for $1.00 each
at the Circulation Desk.
Files stored to the hard drive will be erased.
Printing:
Printing is not available from the laptop. If you wish to print
a file, you will need to take your disk to one of the workstations
in the computer lab.
The Library reserves the right to deny access to the laptop to
users who violate these policies.
