Throughout the year student workers assist the Duggan Library staff in serving the Hanover community. Typically, library positions will offer a minimum of 5 hours a week with no position offering more than 20 hours a week.
Please note that priority in hiring may be given to students eligible for federal work study.
The following is a list of library student worker positions and their typical duties.
Circulation Student Worker tasks include:
- front desk person providing circulation services using the library's automated system
- opening/closing of the library
- assisting patrons using copiers, microfilm reader/printers, and other equipment
- shelving of materials
- searching incoming requests from other libraries; retrieve materials; create circulation records
- receiving interlibrary loan materials coming in for the Library's patrons; prepare materials for circulation; delivers materials to the Circulation Desk
- serving as a Peer Reference Consultant
Acquisitions/Periodicals Assistant Student Worker tasks include:
- assisting with the ordering, payment, and processing of library materials
- receive and invoice books for payment in library's automated system and in an Excel spreadsheet
- reconcile the accounts in Excel with the monthly budget reports
- processing, shelving, and shelf reading current periodicals and newspapers
- transferring and barcoding non-current periodicals
- prepare duplicate exchange list: data entry, physical maintenance of the issues to be offered
Archives and Special Collections Student Assistant tasks include:
- providing a records management function by filing and organizing incoming documents created by the College
- assisting in the organization of collections and creates finding aids for patron access to collections
- assisting with patron research and requests
- assisting with care and organization of rare books
