Reference Chat is for the use of Hanover College and community members and is intended to assist with brief answers to factual questions and to suggest appropriate research sources and strategies.

For lengthy or detailed research needs, we may suggest that you visit the library or schedule an individual, in-person research consultation. Files and full-text of articles cannot be provided via IM.
Chats are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are offered for user convenience. While your questions are important to us, in-person reference requests will take priority over IM reference. There may be some delay in answering IM questions when the reference desk is busy.
Chat transactions and logs are not saved, although statistics of IM questions may be kept.
